Take Steps for Your Unintended Pregnancy with Abortion Pills

To have or not to have an abortion is an entirely women’s issue and to believe that not much contemplation is given by them on this matter is a wrong notion. There are various surveys and studies conducted on this matter that have clearly reported that in most of the cases, there is more than one reason for abortion that a woman cites. It is a huge issue and they do quite understand the importance of it, no woman wants to get it done until it becomes completely necessary. There are of course reasons genuine enough for many of them to take this step but it mostly not taken in a fit of anxiety or fear. It should not be either which is why it is important for women to reach out to right people be it planned parenthood centers or a doctor or parents and partner and take advise and then formulate her own decision.

The most used medication by women in this regard is abortion pills. These pills are a technique or method of abortion that is used for the conclusion of an early pregnancy which is not older than 9 weeks of gestation. The two pills used are Mifepristone and Misoprostol, both the pills are approved by FDA and are also included in WHO’s list of safe and essential drugs that are required in the health system. The massive reliance of women who want to terminate their early pregnancy on this method is because the pills are cheap, they are quite safe, effective, have 98% success rate, no surgery is involved, you just have to ingest pills and the process is a lesser painful one. Some brands used in the class of abortion pills are:

  • Misoprostol brands: Cytotec
  • Mifepristone brands: RU486, Mifeprex, Mifegyne, Korlym
  • Combination brands: MTP Kit

Mifepristone belongs to the category of anti-progestin drugs, this class of drugs act by competitively inhibiting the Progesterone hormone which is the pregnancy hormone as it supplies oxygen and vital nutrients and maintains the viability of the fetal cells.  Misoprostol aids in excluding the pregnancy out. It induces strong contraction in the uterine cell wall by dilating the cervix. This forces the fetal cells out of the body in form of a blood clot.
